On our way home from Fez last weekend we had the opportunity to stop at Volubilis, which is a Roman city about an hour outside of Fez. It really was such an incredible experience because we were able to walking around in the old homes and stores that are now a ruins in the countryside of Morocco. It is so hard to wrap your head around just how old the ruins are and that this was once a thriving city. In the states a historical site like this would be so regulated and a huge “tourist trap”. When we were at Volubilis there were barely any sections that were roped off. There was no security guards walking around telling you that you can’t walk there or climb that. So we climbed on arches that Romans built and sat were Romans sat. It is a rare opportunity to be able to sit in and walk through history.
